Charles Daoust is a founding member of David & Sauvé LLP.

His diverse professional background uniquely positions him to offer clients effective, efficient, and innovative solutions to their disputes. Charles maintains a general civil litigation practice in both official languages, with a focus on commercial disputes and public law, including judicial review and Charter remedies. He is well versed in employment law, whether in matters of unjust dismissal or disciplinary investigations and charges, as well as in defamation law, particularly in cases involving cyberbullying and harassment through social media.

Charles has extensive advocacy experience across commercial and public law matters and has appeared before all levels of court, including the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Courts, and numerous administrative and arbitral tribunals. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on three occasions, most recently as counsel in a constitutional challenge concerning a vice‑regal nomination. His Supreme Court experience also includes acting as co‑counsel for the appellant in a far‑reaching administrative law case and as lead and sole counsel for the appellants in a complex corporate bankruptcy matter involving fraud.

Prior to entering private practice, Charles was a judicial law clerk to the Honourable Mr. Justice Denis Gascon of the Federal Court (2017–2018) and to the Honourable Madam Justice Johanne Gauthier of the Federal Court of Appeal (2018–2019). Before his clerkships, Charles worked for an international arbitration practice group of a global dispute resolution firm in Paris, France. He is also a graduate of the executive-level training seminar on mediating disputes at Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation.

Charles teaches civil procedure, constitutional and administrative law, evidence, and alternative dispute resolution to aspiring law clerks and paralegals at Algonquin College in Ottawa. He also teaches advocacy in French at the University of Ottawa.
