Mariya Gogova Andonova

Lawyer

Montréal

Mariya Gogova Andonova is a member of the Quebec Bar (2022) with an atypical, dynamic, and committed career.

She joined the firm after beginning her legal career in the Legal Affairs Department of the City of Montreal, where she also completed her Bar internship, after having worked there as a legal assistant since 2013. Mariya continued her legal training, which she began at Paris II-Panthéon-ASSAS, and earned an LLB in Law from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 2021.

During her law studies, while fulfilling her role as a mother of young children and a full-time employee, Mariya seized various opportunities to thrive in her student life, test her knowledge, hone her skills, and gain experience.

For example, she was involved with Projet innocence Québec in 2018-2019, which earned her recognition from the Bar of Montreal and a scholarship of excellence. She also participated in the 2019-2020 Gale Cup Moot Court Competition, in criminal and constitutional matters. Finally, Mariya ranked in the top five in Canada in a legal writing competition sponsored by Innocence Canada, aimed at supporting reform of the wrongful conviction review process. She advocated for the creation of an independent Commission for the Review of Applications for Review of Wrongful Convictions. Since the David and Joyce Milgaard Act (Bill C-40) was passed on December 17, 2024, it is easy to say that Mariya contributed to the evaluation of the law in Canada, while she was still a law student.

Committed to giving back to the community, Mariya is now involved with the next generation—public high school students—with the avowed desire to broaden their horizons in the legal field and the ambition to contribute to their legal culture. She directs the Legal Club and mentors the youth team as they prepare for and participate in a moot court competition.

Passionate about the law, Mariya has a multidisciplinary practice and is adding color to her legal palette, specializing in various areas of practice, including civil, administrative, municipal, and criminal litigation. She brings the same energy, dedication, and perseverance to defending our clients’ rights.
